HSE tools

During 2006 a BitSafe Training scheme was launched with a series of "Train-the-Trainer" courses. These trainers will introduce comprehensive training schemes at their workplaces with the aim of mitigating workers' exposure to the hazards inherent in the handling of bituminous products. The following bitumen HSE Tools have been produced and are available from Sabita:

Bitsafe DVDs

DVD410, entitled The safe handling of bitumen has been designed as an audio-visual aid to the BitSafe Training Course.		DVD420, entitled The treatment of bitumen burns, has been produced to assist BitSafe trainers in the first aid treatment of bitumen burns.

DVD430, entitled Working Safely with Bitumen has been produced for inducting new employees.

Training Aids

The BitSafe First Aid Kit contains all the necessary equipment, including the familiar green burns tags, to ensure best possible first aid treatment on site in the event of a bitumen burn.

Manuals

Sabita's Manual 8: Guidelines for the safe and responsible handling of bituminous products, is aimed at identifying hazards associated with various operations in the handling of bituminous products, and defining precautionary measures to minimise the risk of exposure to such hazards.		Sabita's Manual 26: Interim guidelines for primes and stone precoating fluids, is aimed at promoting the discontinuation of coal tar products in road construction. The intention of the guideline is to assist road authorities and engineers with the selection of proven substitutes for environmentally unfriendly coal tar binders.
